Join the EBC Ocean and Coastal Resources Committee for the 19th Annual Dredging Conference, this year taking an in-depth look at one of New England’s most significant urban sediment cleanups: the Lower Neponset River Superfund Site in Boston and Milton. The Lower Neponset River Superfund Site encompasses approximately 3.7 miles of the river in Boston and Milton. The dredging and related cleanup activities planned for the river’s first mile – from the Mother Brook confluence to the Tileston and Hollingsworth Dam – constitute Phase 1 of the broader Superfund cleanup. EPA’s plan for this initial reach calls for dredging and excavating PCB-contaminated sediment and riverbank soils, capping select areas, and enabling removal of the aging T&H Dam.
With the project moving from design into construction, speakers from EPA, the design team, and the watershed community will walk through how an urban dredging project comes together.
Topics include site characterization and remedy selection, engineering design in a densely populated neighborhood, coordination with state landowners and the public, and the logistics of disposing of contaminated sediment off-site. Attendees will come away with a practical, end-to-end view of the decisions, tradeoffs, and partnerships behind a major remediation project in their own backyard.
A robust moderated discussion with the speakers will conclude this virtual conference.
Who Should Attend?
Environmental consultants and engineers working on sediment remediation, dredging, and dam removal projects; marine and remediation contractors; waste management and disposal professionals; federal, state, and municipal regulators and project managers; attorneys advising on Superfund and CERCLA matters; watershed and community organizations; and anyone interested in the future of the Neponset River and urban waterways across New England.
General Continuing Education Certificates are awarded by the EBC for this program (2.5 training contact hours). Certificates are automatically provided via email link for registered attendees at the conclusion of the webinar.
