Got Sand? Implementation of Large-Scale Beach Nourishment Part II
Northeast Shore and Beach Preservation Association (NSBPA) & EBC Ocean and Coastal Resources Lunch & Learn Webinar
As beach nourishment and nature-based solutions to manage coastal erosion becomes more commonplace in the northeast, there is growing demand for sand to make these projects a reality. Finding sufficient quantities of high-quality, clean, beach-compatible sand is increasingly challenging, particularly given the cost of traditional upland sources and impacts associated with transporting the sand to each site. Consequently, there is increasing consideration for using offshore sand sources. Although offshore sand mining has been common practice for decades, it is less common in the northeast.
This program will focus on this topic, and include three (3) progressive presentations starting with an overview of the general experience and best practices, a case study on large scale sand sourcing for nourishing the New Jersey coastline, and then a focused update on the status of offshore sand sources and policies in Massachusetts.
This program is a collaboration between the EBC Ocean and Coastal Resources Committee and the Northeast Shore & Beach Preservation Association (NSBPA), and builds naturally on the prior program from October 2025 entitled Dig In! which was focused on Large Scale Beach Nourishment. Now the question is where do you get the sand!?
General Continuing Education Certificates are awarded by the EBC for this program (2.0 training contact hours). Certificates are automatically provided via email link for registered attendees at the conclusion of the webinar.
