Westfield, Massachusetts – March 28, 2013 – Last month, the State of Connecticut House of Representatives appointed Joseph Balskus, P.E., PTOE to the Connecticut Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board. A Principal Engineer and Director of Traffic & Parking at Tighe & Bond, Balskus brings more than 24 years of professional transportation experience to this appointment and his fellow board members.
A resident of Portland, Connecticut, Balskus has a long history of providing engineering services for numerous traffic, parking, transportation management, and land development projects in Connecticut and throughout Southern New England. He has been involved with Complete Streets projects where the needs of all users are considered in the new paradigm of transportation improvements. He recently served as President of the New England Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (NEITE), and is currently serving as Co-Chair of the 2013 Northeastern District Annual meeting in May, which takes place in Northampton, Massachusetts.
Balskus is also an avid runner and tri-athlete, competing at many events, which has given him an acute understanding of the transportation system from the pedestrian and bicyclist vantage point. He holds a bachelor of science in engineering technology from Connecticut State University.
The mission of the Connecticut Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board is to achieve full integration of walking, bicycling, and transit use into Connecticut’s transportation system.
Created in 2009 by the State Legislature, the Connecticut Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board consists of 11 members. The board examines the need for bicycle and pedestrian transportation, promotes programs and facilities for bicycles and pedestrians in this state, and advises appropriate agencies of the state on policies, programs and facilities for bicycles and pedestrians.
