Pierce Atwood Attorneys Take on Leadership Roles in Maine Nonprofits

Portland, ME – Pierce Atwood employment attorney Daniel R. Strader has been named vice chair of the Impact Investment Committee of the Brick & Beam Society, and firm intellectual property and trademark attorney Michael Hernandez has joined The Summit Project Board of Directors.

Brick & Beam’s Impact Investment Committee is responsible for soliciting and evaluating grant applications, and then deciding how to invest the membership’s funds.  According to its website, the Brick & Beam Society, an affinity group of United Way of Greater Portland, is a community of established and emerging professionals committed to increasing STEM and educational enrichment opportunities for children in Greater Portland. Since 2016, Brick & Beam has invested $454,000 in various educational programs in Cumberland County.

The Summit Project (TSP) is a living memorial that honors and keeps alive the memories of Maine’s post-9/11 fallen soldiers, “through education, fellowship, and physical activity.” Surviving families unearth and donate stones that uniquely represent their loved ones. Volunteers commit to learning about the lives and sacrifices of the fallen, and then carry their tribute stones and share their stories on treks throughout Maine and across the world.

Mike Hernandez first became involved with TSP through the firm’s pro bono program.  His experience and interactions with the TSP leadership team not only deepened his appreciation for TSP’s mission, but also inspired him to become more active in the organization. He has already completed several hikes, and is “humbled and excited by the opportunity to further pay tribute to our military service members and their families by keeping the memories of our fallen heroes alive.”
