“e” inc. Greens the Holidays with “Winter Lights in the Rainforest”

Cambridge, MA — November 27, 2007 — Area children and families will have a unique opportunity to celebrate the holidays and help the Earth at the same time!  “e” inc., Greater Boston’s environmental learning & action center, is producing its first annual “Winter Lights in the Rainforest” benefit at the Kendall Square Starbucks in Cambridge.  This family rainforest party, which will help raise funds for “e” inc.’s environmental programs in local schools, will provide children and their families with a fun, festive holiday experience where they can learn about the rainforest, create replicas of its many wonderful inhabitants and resources, and also help to preserve it.  The event will take place on Saturday, December 8th from 1-4 p.m. at the Starbucks at Ames St. and Broadway in Kendall Square, Cambridge.

“e” inc.
has been hard at work making environment science accessible and fun for urban children in the Greater Boston community.  A once-a-year benefit, “Winter Lights in the Rainforest” will have the same spirit of excitement seen in all “e” inc.year-round programs – hands-on science that is inviting and engaging for children and families.  Starbucks, which is generously hosting the afternoon, will offer complimentary pastries, coffee, and beverages as visitors ‘learn and do’ throughout the store.  There will be stations set up for rainforest games, scavenger hunts, experiments and investigations.  Also included are: a gift table selling sustainable items such as kits to grow-your-own-spruce trees, reusable supermarket bags, and our holiday raffle.  Visitors will also be able to learn more about “e” inc.‘s work in schools, after schools, and in the local community.   Not only will the activities grab the attention of children and teens but all participants will also be given rainforest-themed projects and action activities that they can do at home.

As an added bonus, participants will have the opportunity to get some holiday shopping done directly across the street at Quantum Books, which will be open this one Saturday just for “Winter Light” visitors.  Quantum Books has a gorgeous collection of science-related picture books and kits for kids, plus Hansa stuffed animals representing beings from around the world, jewelry, and games.  In honor of the “Winter Lights” fundraiser, Quantum will donate a percentage of every sale to “e” inc.‘s environmental science and action programs.

“Winter Lights in the Rainforest” will take place on Saturday, December 8th from 1-4 p.m. at the Starbucks Cafe located at the corner of Ames St. and Broadway in Kendall Square, Cambridge.  Suggested donations at the door are $8 for adults and $5 for kids.
