Ecological construction company SumCo Eco-Contracting, LLC announced that The Dawson Corporation, based in Jackson, New Jersey and NETCO Construction Project Managers, Inc, based in Lexington, Massachusetts have joined the company. “The joining of Dawson and NETCO with SumCo Eco strengthens our combined core ecological construction capabilities supporting project partners across New England and Mid-Atlantic states,” said Chad Sumner, SumCo Eco co-founder and principal. “We are now able to draw upon thousands of eco improvement projects completed by the three companies over our 85-years of combined existence. Our uniting adds depth and value for project owners, designers and stakeholders who seek project outcomes that enhance and protect property, communities, infrastructure, and the natural world.”

Founded in 1975, Dawson brings decades of experience to resolving complex ecological construction challenges for a range of clients including federal/state agencies, utilities, developers, large landowners, county/local government and NGOs. Dawson has completed hundreds of mitigation and restoration projects across all habitats – streams, wetlands, forests and meadows. Dawson has additional significant experience on brownfield restoration; stormwater BMPs; invasive removal, and nature-based solutions such as living shorelines and other Green Infrastructure strategies to increase community resilience. “Today we are finding that project owners and their partners value constructors who are passionate about their craft and who look for ways to improve on outcomes for the people and the environment,” said Dawson Founder Bob Swain. “Uniting with SumCo Eco enables us to leverage our combined experience, facilities, equipment and other resources to provide expanded expertise and project delivery capability across the Northeast.”
Founded in 1991, NETCO pioneered the use of “soft” erosion control measures including biodegradable coir and jute fabrics for the east facing shoreline on Nantucket and other locations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, in addition to coastal bank stabilization where traditional “hard” engineering solutions cannot be used. It has also installed numerous stone revetments, groins, gabions, and sand drift fencing. In addition to erosion control measures, NETCO’s coastal construction projects include coastal bank stairways, boardwalks and pedestrian bridges, and marsh and wetland restoration. “NETCO has worked diligently and with humility for 28 years to build a respected coastal construction company,” said NETCO Founder David Lager. “We are thrilled to join the SumCo Eco team that both shares our values as people and our vision to construct projects that help create a more adaptive, resilient and sustainable world.”
Dawson and NETCO’s staff and equipment have been retained by SumCo Eco. Each will service its clients with no change in project leadership or support—operating as SumCo Eco-Teams—while receiving human resources, accounting, finance, marketing, and management support from SumCo Eco’s Central Services team.
