The EBC John A.S. McGlennon Award for Corporate Leadership is awarded to Narragansett Bay Commission’s (NBC) Net-Zero Renewable Energy Program. Through this program NBC is able to stabilize electric costs and sewer rates and demonstrate to other agencies the efficacy of investing in renewable energy generating assets. NBC has committed to obtaining all of its power from sustainable sources before 2025 and has already invested $38 million in a diverse array of renewable generating assets, including onshore wind turbines, solar arrays, and an anaerobic digester biogas project.
In addition to renewable energy, NBC is also investing in electric vehicles and an aggressive energy efficiency program. NBC’s Net-Zero Renewable Energy Program minimizes risk, saves money, generates revenue from the sale of renewable energy credits, and helps stabilize sewer rates paid by its residential and business customers. The portfolio of renewable energy generating projects and energy efficiency programs results in great economic and environmental benefits to Rhode Island and the region.
