Mackie Shea O’Brien, P.C. Receives Accolades from Chambers USA

The boutique environmental law firm of Mackie Shea O’Brien, PC, has been recognized again as one of the top environmental law groups in Massachusetts in the 2014 edition of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business.
Chambers reported MSO is a “strong choice for matters pertaining to solid and hazardous waste” and is “well regarded in the dispute arena, including in appeals of permits and cleanup costs.”  Chambers reported the firm is “a force in licensing and enforcement defense” and is “recognized for its strong relationships with federal and state regulators.”  Chambers quoted sources saying the MSO team is “expert, efficient and cost effective” and “a tremendous value.”

Each of the firm’s shareholders, Thomas A. Mackie, John F. Shea, and Michelle N. O’Brien, was highlighted as a leader in the environmental bar.  Chambers noted Michelle O’Brien represents clients in environmental litigation and enforcement proceedings and quoted a source saying she is “very thorough and very forward thinking.”  Tom Mackie is lauded by the market for his expertise in matters relating to solid waste, and a practice that includes regulatory compliance and insurance coverage.  John Shea is recognized for his considerable capabilities in matters related to wetland, water and hazardous waste law.  Sources report that “there’s nothing he hasn’t seen or done.”

Selection for recognition by Chambers USA is an honor.  Chambers conducts independent research that includes interviews with clients, written questionnaires, and interviews with peers.  Chambers ranks law firms and attorneys based on specific qualities such as technical legal ability, professional conduct, and client service, among others.

Benjamin Levesque Joins Tighe & Bond’s Worcester Office

Benjamin Levesque, P.E., BCEE joined Tighe & Bond, Inc. this week as a senior project manager who will work out of the firm’s Worcester, Massachusetts office. A civil and environmental engineer, he has more than 15 years of experience in the water and wastewater industry. During this time, he has collaborated with more than 20 eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island municipalities to design and improve their water and wastewater systems.

Levesque has worked on a variety of water and wastewater infrastructure projects including bench and pilot scale projects. He also has designed gravity sewer and wastewater pumping stations, water mains, booster stations and water treatment plants to meet the unique needs of a wide range of clients.

Levesque earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of New Hampshire, and his Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.  He holds professional registrations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and also has the distinction of being recognized as a Board Certified Environmental Engineer (BCEE) by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers.

His professional memberships include the American Water Works Association (AWWA), Water Environment Federation (WEF), New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA), New England Works Association (NEWWA), Massachusetts Water Works Association (MWWA), and Barnstable County Water Utilities Association (BCWUA).

A resident of North Attleborough, MA, Levesque is also a representative town meeting member in that community.


Mabbett Hires Freddie Ferreira, CPG As Tri-State Regional Manager

(Mabbett®) has appointed Mr. Freddie Ferreira, CPG as the firms Tri‐State Regional Manager and Senior Project Manager located in Paramus, New Jersey.Mr. Ferreira will continue Mabbett’s success providing environmental, health and safety consulting and engineering to multiple Federal and private clients’ throughout New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. “I am pleased to begin a new challenge with Mabbett and look forward to working with the team to further develop the Tri‐State regional office. As a Certified Professional Geologist (CPG), Mr. Ferreira has managed dozens of multi‐disciplinary programs and successfully delivered hundreds of projects for Federal, municipal, and private sector clients throughout the United States,the Caribbean, Central, and South America over his 25‐plus year career. As the Regional Office Manager and Senior Project Manager for the Tri‐State Regional Office, Freddie will manage the overall day‐to‐day operations of the office and business development programs.

Mr. Ferreira has 25 years of technical experience in the environmental, engineering, compliance, planning,construction management including marine terminals, and water resources service areas. He holds an MBA from the University of Tampa and a BS in Earth Sciences from the University of Massachusetts. Mabbett Promotes Lawrence Calabro, PE, CSP, BCEE

Mabbett & Associates, Inc. (Mabbett®) is pleased to announce that Lawrence A. Calabro, PE, CSP, BCEE (USAF LTC retired) has been promoted to Mid‐Atlantic Regional Manager.

Mabbett, President. “Larry has demonstrated the dedication, experience and expertise needed to effectively lead and grow Mabbett’s Mid‐Atlantic Regional Office in Alexandria, VA. With Larry’s proven experience he will continue to provide exceptional client service, technical expertise, and now unsurpassed leadership.”

Mr. Calabro has 22 years in private industry, government and the US military. Mr. Calabro’s wide‐ranging knowledge of environmental health and safety (EH&S) regulations and programs has been gained through experience working as a Navy construction project manager, Naval hospital facilities manager, a state environmental regulator, an environmental site assessment and remediation consultant, and as an US Air Force (USAF) Bioenvironmental Engineer managing EH&S programs at multiple Air Force installations. For the last three years of his USAF career he led the USAF’s development and launch of an Environmental and Occupational Health Management System.

At Mabbett, Mr. Calabro is a senior environmental engineer and provides senior technical support on a variety of projects including occupational safety and health management system development and implementation, EH&S compliance and program development, EH&S management system and compliance auditing, industrial hygiene, radiation protection, and environmental engineering.


Geosyntec Consultants Welcomes Chris Green as Senior Consultant

Chris Green, P.E. has joined Geosyntec Consultants in Acton as a Senior Consultant. He has over 18 years of experience in the full cycle of environmental remediation projects, specializing in the remediation of sites with impacted sediments. He also provides expertise in the use of groundwater collection trenches, caps, cutoff walls, and bioremediation. He has served as the program manager for a national portfolio of remediation projects for a large chemical industry client and also managed a pilot study to assess the use of carbon-based amendments to treat methyl mercury and PCBs in marsh sediments. Chris has been the lead geotechnical engineer for slurry wall projects, groundwater control systems, landfill cap projects, and solidification/stabilization projects. He has also designed various water and wastewater treatment plants and other projects.

Chris earned his second M.S. in Engineering Management from Tufts in 2004. Prior to that, he had earned a M.S. in Environmental Geotechnology, also from Tufts, as well as a B.S. in Civil Engineering Technology from the Wentworth Institute of Technology.
