The 9th Annual NEWIEE Awards Gala – Register Today!

On April 24th, New England Women in Energy and the Environment (NEWIEE) will hold its 9th Annual Awards Gala, recognizing and celebrating the accomplishments of women leaders in energy and environment. The event will be held at Westin Copley Place, Boston.

The NEWIEE Awards are presented at the annual NEWIEE Gala to honor and celebrate the achievements of women leaders in the energy and environment industry.

  • The Leadership Award honors women who have promoted opportunities for women in the energy and environmental fields, and have continued to nurture and encourage women in these areas throughout their careers.
  • The Rising Star Award, in honor of Allison Smith was created in 2016 to honor a woman with less than ten years of industry experience who has demonstrated a commitment to, and positive impact on, her field; both professionally and in her personal endeavors.

NEWIEE’s 2019 Annual Awards Gala will feature five exceptional women leaders. We are thrilled to announce that our Keynote will be Maria Tikoff Vargas, and our four awardees are Karen Coyne, Lisa Frantzis, June E. Tierney, and Emily Luksha!

Peter Durning Named Managing Shareholder of Mackie Shea, PC

Mackie Shea, PC is pleased to announce that Peter F. Durning is the new Managing Shareholder of the firm.

In addition to serving in the principal management role for the firm, Peter continues to handle a wide variety of environmental matters including local, state, and federal permit proceedings and appeals.

Peter is also involved in water management issues, wetlands hearings and adjudicatory appeals, environmental remediation cost recovery actions, solid waste site assignment appeals, zoning disputes, citizen suits regarding stormwater discharges, and U.S. EPA and MassDEP enforcement actions, and provides guidance on environmental issues in business and real estate transactions.

A 2003 graduate of Boston College Law School, Peter joined Mackie Shea in May 2011 and became a Shareholder in September 2015.

Mackie Shea, PC is a leading boutique environmental, land use, and litigation law firm based in Boston. Along with Shareholders, Thomas A. Mackie and John F. Shea, Peter leads the firm’s management team.

Celebrating The Work of Community and Environmental Leaders in Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Clean Community Awards recognize volunteers, nonprofit leaders, government leaders, businesses, and educators for exceptional environmental protection and community improvement efforts.

Nominations for this year’s awards are open and will be accepted until April 30. Awards will be presented at the Massachusetts Clean Community Awards Gala on May 16, 2019. This highly anticipated celebration will be chock full of inspiring stories, good food, drink, and entertainment!

This celebration will be hosted by WCVB news anchors Emily Riemer and Ben Simmoneau.
