Tetra Tech Wins Brownfields Contract from EPA

Tetra Tech, Inc. (Pasadena, CA) announced that it has received a contract from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to provide technical, analytical, and program support services to the agency’s Office of Brownfields and Land Revitalization. Under the contract, Tetra Tech will provide research, planning, reporting, communications, outreach, training and other services to communities engaged in brownfields redevelopment. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (ID/IQ) contract has a value of $24 million over its five-year lifetime.



Tetra Tech one of four STARR Program Winners

Tetra Tech, Inc. 
(Pasadena, CA) announced that it is one of four firms to receive a contract form the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to provide technical support for USAID’s Strengthening Tenure and Resource Rights (STARR) program. Under the contract, Tetra Tech will assist in the agency’s efforts to improve the security of property rights and access to land and associated natural resources in developing nations. The goals of the program include enhanced food security and economic growth, improved local resource governance, strengthened property rights for women and vulnerable groups, and improved capacity to adapt to climate change. The program has a ceiling of $700 million.


Covanta Enters Ash Recycling Pact, Upgrades Newark Facility

Covanta Energy Corp. (Morristown, NJ) has formed a joint venture with Germany’s TARTECH, LLC to recover and recycle metals from waste-to-energy ash in the North American marketplace. The new joint venture, called Covanta TARTECH, LLC, will use a proprietary technology supplied by TARTECH to recover ferrous and non-ferrous metals in the ash generated at waste-to-energy plants and disposed of in monofills. Separately, as part of its new arrangement with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Covanta has disclosed plans to upgrade the Essex County Resource Recovery Facility in Newark, New Jersey, to include a state-of-the-art emissions control system and a new recycling system for ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The Port Authority has given Covanta control of the facility through 2032, with options to extend that control through 2052. In addition to installing baghouse filters on each of the Essex County facility’s three combustion units and adding new metals recycling systems, Covanta will install a compressed natural gas refueling station at the facility.


Terracon Acquires IHI, Allies with Examinetics

Consulting and engineering firm Terracon (Olathe, KS) has made two moves to expand its geographic presence and its service portfolio. In Utah, Terracon has acquired Salt Lake City-based IHI Environmental, a 75-person environmental engineering firm with offices in Denver, Phoenix, Seattle, and Emeryville, California. IHI specializes in industrial hygiene, occupational safety, and environmental consulting services for public- and private-sector clients. In addition, Terracon and Examinetics (Overland Park, KS http://www.examinetics.com/), a provider of on-site occupational health screening and data management services, have formed a strategic alliance to provide industrial hygiene services. Under the alliance agreement, Terracon will provide such services as air monitoring, noise engineering, and compliance management, to Examinetics’ customers, while Examinetics will implement medical surveillance programs in such areas as hearing conservation, respiratory protection, blood analysis, and wellness.
