One of the most important developments in our communities and our businesses is the focus and attention on the issues of environmental justice. While there has been an awareness and attention to environmental justice in the past, the recent regulatory changes to weave environmental justice considerations into all environmental permitting has elevated these issues to the forefront of all project planning exercises.
In the specific area of solid waste facility permitting, environmental justice presents some distinct challenges: How to address EJ concerns on historic parcels that already enjoy a site assignment? To what extent should the industry address potential EJ concerns that may arise from out-of-state disposal facilities that might not have the same level of attention and scrutiny on environmental justice issues?
In this EBC Solid Waste Management program, the goal is to take a close look at environmental justice issues in the solid waste sector. Our presenters will provide a nuts & bolts discussion of the practical considerations that project proponents need to address in the permitting contexts. We will also explore the implications for continuing operations under current permit approvals and the implications for the regions’ increasing reliance on out-of-state disposal.
A robust panel discussion with the audience will conclude the webinar.
General Continuing Education Certificates are awarded by the EBC for this program (2.5 training contact hours). Certificates are automatically provided via email link for registered attendees at the conclusion of the webinar.
