EBC Solid Waste Energy Seminar – Part 2 – Energy from Waste Technologies
June 9, 2010 @ 7:30 am - 12:00 pm
Approximately fifty percent of the Commonwealth?s municipal solid waste (MSW) is processed through energy from waste facilities. Given the state of the economy, the rising cost of energy and the desire to reduce our dependence on energy from fossil fuels, especially of foreign origin, is it time for the Commonwealth to reconsider its decision to maintain the existing moratorium on new facilities that would recover energy from municipal solid waste.
This second program in this three part series focuses on current and alternative energy from waste technologies. The first program (May 5, 2010) focused on the issues surrounding the decision of EEA Secretary Ian Bowles to maintain existing moratorium and looked in greater detail at the energy from waste option and on the implications of maintaining the moratorium. The third program, scheduled for July 21, 2010, will look more specifically at environmental and climate change implications of energy from waste.
