Impacts to air within buildings may occur at sites where subsurface soil or groundwater is contaminated by volatiles (i.e., vapor intrusion). Nationally, there has been increased focus on vapor intrusion issues in the transaction context. In March, ASTM issued a standard for assessing vapor intrusion as part of due diligence. In Massachusetts, there has been increased interest in vapor intrusion issues as the Department of Environmental Protection has been modifying its methodology for assessing such impacts, including by issuing new draft guidance in January.
Please join us as we discuss these important issues. Elizabeth Sherwood Krol, P.G., from Shaw Environmental & Infrastructure, Inc., will discuss the national picture, including the new ASTM standard. Paul W. Locke, Director of Response & Remediation, Bureau of Waste Site Cleanup, Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, will discuss the evolution in DEP methodology relating to vapor intrusion. Ileen Gladstone, P.E., LSP, LEED AP, from GEI Consultants, Inc., will discuss, using a case study, how the draft DEP policy may affect how vapor intrusion is addressed.
Jeanine Grachuk of Beveridge & Diamond, P.C. has been named the new Chair of the Environmental Business Council (EBC) Site Remediation and Redevelopment Committee. The mission of the committee is to facilitate discussion of remediation and redevelopment issues that are of importance to EBC members and their clients. Issues include but are not limited to legislative, regulatory and policy developments, innovative technologies, and business development opportunities at the federal, state, regional, and local level. These issues are addressed by providing objective information from up-to-date and reliable sources including government officials, technology developers, and business experts.
