EBC Renewable Energy Committee: Site Visit to Lightolier Wind Turbine
December 11, 2012 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Director of Clean Energy, HMMH
Subject: Site Visit to Lightolier Wind Turbine
Philips Lightolier, a division of Philips Lighting North America, officially dedicated a Sany 2MW wind turbine on January 31, 2012. The 415-foot tall wind turbine is generating enough renewable electricity to power approximately 70 percent of the Philips Lightolier Fall River manufacturing plant or enough power for about 500 homes. The clean electricity is expected to offset the production of nearly 30,000 tons of carbon dioxide over the lifetime of the project which is equivalent to taking approximately 4,000 cars off the road. The wind project is part of Philips Lightolier’s plan to create a net zero energy manufacturing facility. The company received a $40,000 Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) feasibility study grant in 2006 to evaluate the potential for a wind project and a $500,000 grant from MassCEC to design and construct the project in 2009.
At this EBC Renewable Energy Committee meeting, company officials will discuss their experience with developing and operating the wind turbine project.
Unless otherwise noted, all EBC Committee meetings are for EBC members only, and their guests. There is no charge for members to attend this meeting. Please register in advance.
