EBC Renewable Energy Committee Site Visit: Museum of Science Wind Testing Laboratory
May 8, 2014 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
Attendance is limited to 15 registrants. Once registration closes, a waitlist will be activated.
In 2009, the Museum of Science (MOS) installed a rooftop Wind Turbine Lab with five different types of small-scale turbines to expand its Green Initiative, a commitment to reducing its environmental footprint, and provide a renewable energy platform for science and education. This independent test facility in an urban environment provides useful data and project experience for professionals, universities, government, and consumers. The lab feeds live data to the exhibit Catching the Wind, where visitors learn about our wind turbines and energy technology. The electricity produced, enough to power about 60% of the needs of a typical Massachusetts home, supports a portion of the Museum’s needs. On this EBC site visit, MOS lab analyst Marian Tomusiak will provide an inside look at the facility and summarize some the findings of its research.
