Shoreline stabilization has historically and continues to be crucial to the protection of existing developed coastal areas. Historic approaches tended toward “hard” structures, which paradoxically often amplify shoreline erosion by preventing natural processes. “Soft” solutions, including living shorelines, have become increasingly popular. This EBC Ocean and Coastal Resources program will address the current status and knowledge of living shoreline applications in Massachusetts.

A group of industry and regulatory experts will present their practical experiences and perspectives to explore living shorelines: what are they; when, where and how should they be implemented, including combination hard/soft approaches in historically developed/hardened areas; regulatory and permitting considerations; and lessons learned.

General Continuing Education Certificates are awarded by the EBC for this program (3.5 training contact hours). Please select this option during registration if you wish to receive a certificate.
