Technological innovation plays a vital role in addressing the challenges and complexities of climate change. This EBC Lunchtime Webinar Series developed by the EBC Climate Change and Air Committee highlights innovative tools to address climate change mitigation and adaptation needs for your projects. Led by industry experts, this webinar series will include a walk-through of each tool’s inputs and outputs, interface, use cases, and project case studies. The presentation series covers topics such as resilience planning, flood hazard mapping, greenhouse gas reduction, fleet transition management, and more.

A robust Q&A discussion with the audience will conclude each webinar.

Part One

The Resilient MA Action Team (RMAT) developed Climate Resilience Design Standards Tool (the Tool) to make:

  • preliminary climate resilience analysis more broadly accessible;
  • provide consistent, risk-based design standards recommendations;
  • inform climate resilient capital planning and procurement; and
  • provide a unified and automated online viewer that supports evaluation of projects.

The outputs serve as a consistent basis-of-discussion for planning and early design of projects with physical assets in the Commonwealth. This first-of-its-kind Tool in the nation and supporting resources are free and accessible to the public and provide significant advancements in integrating climate resilience into the standard of care across the built, natural, and social environments. The Tool first launched as a beta version in April 2021 and has been updated several times since to incorporate feedback from stakeholders, new and updated climate projections, additional asset types, and updated scoring and output rationale. The most recent update (Version 1.2) includes interactive projected water surface elevation maps.

This webinar will provide an overview of what the Tool is (and what it is not), including what type of information is needed to use the Tool and how outputs may be used in planning, early design, and project evaluation. There will be a live demonstration of the Tool, including unique tips and tricks to help attendees use the Tool effectively.

General Continuing Education Certificates are awarded by the EBC for this program (1.0 training contact hours). Certificates are automatically provided via email link for registered attendees at the conclusion of the webinar.
