Environmental Business Council of New England

This EBC Emerging Contaminants Seminar will follow the life cycle of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from manufacturing to environmental deposition and ensuing human exposure. Seminar speakers will review the various industries and products that contain these compounds and discuss the primary mechanisms for their release to the environment including several case studies from active sites in New England.

The seminar will evaluate the fate and transport of these compounds in the environment and summarize primary routes of exposure to humans. Speakers will then explore how PFAS are recycled in the environment through contaminated properties, contaminated drinking water, landfills, wastewater effluent/biosolids, and stormwater. The seminar will also include a presentation on PFAS remediation and treatment covering industrial and municipal wastewater processes, environmental remediation of soil and groundwater, and product substitution/elimination. MassDEP will provide an update on PFAS regulations in Massachusetts and their potential effect on industry. At the conclusion of the technical session, a panel discussion featuring the day’s presenters will occur to allow for audience questions and a deeper dive into the issues discussed.

General Continuing Education Certificates are awarded by the EBC for this program (6.0 training contact hours). Please select this option during registration if you wish to receive a certificate. Note that these certificates are considered proof of attendance but are not certified by any outside organizations.

EBC has submitted this seminar for consideration by the Massachusetts LSP Board at their March 10, 2020 meeting for technical credit. Credits, if approved, will be retroactively applied.
