EBC Dam Management Webinar Series: Liability & Insurance Considerations for Dam Owners and Engineers – Part 1: Historical Dam Failures in New England

October 1, 2020 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

This EBC Dam Management webinar series will focus on the bad things that can happen to dams and what owners and engineers should consider relative to their liability and insurance strategies for such events. Part I of this two-part series will review five historical dam failures or incidents in New England. The oldest and most tragic of these failures was that of the Williamsburg Reservoir Dam in 1874, which killed 139 people, while the most recent incident was the near failure of the Whittenton Dam in Taunton, MA, in 2005. The presenters will discuss some of the lessons from the failures and incidents with the audience at the end of the program.
