EBC Dam Management and Renewable Energy Program: In-Conduit – Hydropower’s New Frontier

June 11, 2015 @ 8:00 am – 11:30 am
Massachusetts Division of Fisheries & Wildlife Headquarters
One Rabbit Hill Road
Westborough MA 01581

Hydropower has been a source for electrical generation in New England for hundreds of years. Typically, new hydropower development in New England has been limited to existing dams. Many of the most the economically feasible projects have already been developed. More recently, there has been an exciting focus on in-conduit hydropower. This is hydropower which harnesses excess energy in water flowing for a purpose other than energy generation such as water supply, waste water, and irrigation systems. Because the water is already being used for another purpose, harnessing the excess energy has little to no environmental impact. This program will provide technical background and insight into a variety of important factors associated with in-conduit hydropower.
