The 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP21) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which ends on Friday, December 11, 2015, brought together world leaders to hammer out an agreement aimed at stabilizing the climate and avoiding the worst impacts of climate change. With the deadline looming to conclude a sweeping new climate accord, negotiators from nearly 200 countries have yet to resolve major issues, such as how and when pledged cuts to carbon emissions would be verified.
This EBC program will feature EBC COP 21 delegate Sonia Hamel who has just returned from Paris. She will brief attendees and lead a discussion on the outcome of the Conference. Among the potential outcomes is the development of a deal to cut emissions that will reduce greenhouse gasses to the level needed to prevent atmospheric warming of 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
The outcome of COP 21, as well as major long-term trends resulting from climate change policy decisions, will reshape the world over the next decade, including demographic shifts, social challenges, and environmental events – each significantly impacting the global economy.
