In accordance with current Massachusetts regulations, many if not most dam owners must prepare an Emergency Action Plan (EAP). The level of detail within the plan can vary depending upon the area to be impacted downstream of the dam in the event of a failure.  As with all types of emergency situations, many entities are necessary to provide the proper level of response to protect the public and respond to developing situations. The events surrounding the Oroville Dam in California, although on a much larger scale, remind us of the events that occurred locally in 2005, 2010, and 2012, and the potential impact dams can have on our communities. As dam professionals, owners, contractors, responders, and regulators, it is important that we are prepared for emergency situations; that we have the tools to protect the downstream resource areas, the public, and the downstream infrastructure.

This EBC Dam Management Program will discuss the anatomy of a plan and provide lessons learned from immediate responders.

Following the presentations, a question and answer panel discussion between presenters and attendees will take place moderated by Matthew Taylor, Co-Chair of the EBC Dam Management Committee and Principal of GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc.

Continuing Education Certificates are awarded by the EBC for this program (3.5 training contact hours). Please select this option during registration if you wish to receive a certificate.
