Framingham, MA – The Massachusetts chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) honored Tetra Tech recently as the Platinum Award winner of the state chapter’s 2007 Engineering Excellence Awards competition. As the Platinum Award winner, Tetra Tech placed second out of all this year’s entrants.
The ACEC Engineering Excellence Award recognizes engineering firms for projects that demonstrate a high degree of achievement, value, and ingenuity. Tetra Tech entered its Overhead Coverage System Program which involved the design and construction of protective structures at multiple facilities in Iraq in support of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ construction programs. As lead design engineer on the project’s design/build team headed by Perini Corporation of Framingham, Tetra Tech designed more than 50 first-of-a-kind protective structures to cover existing facilities in full operation and use by U.S. soldiers in Iraq. The project met a very aggressive schedule and was carried out in the most remote and hostile locations in that war-torn country. The team’s success in meeting these challenges has improved the safety of U.S. troops in Iraq while providing an important model that can be used for retrofitting more structures for force protection in other dangerous areas.
“This is a significant project for us,” said Richard Moore, P.E., President of Tetra Tech Rizzo, a Tetra Tech company in Framingham, Massachusetts. “The Perini/Tetra Tech Team met very difficult challenges to design and construct these protective structures, and the team’s success in meeting these challenges has greatly improved the safety of our troops in Iraq. We are also proud that local laborers helped build these structures at a time when jobs in Iraq were scarce and the economy was in poor condition.”
