BEDFORD, NH — Normandeau Associates Inc., an employee-owned environmental consulting firm located in Bedford, NH, announces changes to its leadership team. The Board of Directors approved the new appointments, implementing the next phase of the company’s strategic leadership plan. “The purpose of this move is to build on Normandeau’s strong foundation and position us for continued success,” said Pam Hall, who has served as both President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the past 28 years. As CEO, Hall will continue to focus her efforts on management and the company’s long-term growth and development. Hall, a long-time member of the company’s Board of Directors, was also elected Chair in January 2015.

Robert Varney, Normandeau’s Executive Vice President since 2009, succeeds Hall as President. Varney is the former New England Regional Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency and served as Commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services under three different governors. Since joining Normandeau, Varney has spearheaded strategic initiatives to expand both the company’s services to new markets and its geographic reach. Varney is recognized for instituting innovative approaches and policy initiatives that have served as national models. “Bob’s unique qualifications and demonstrated leadership make him an excellent choice as the next President,” said Hall.

The Board named Colonel (Ret.) Curtis Thalken P.E., Senior Vice President, as Chief Operating Officer (COO). Col. Thalken’s 25 year Army career included working in both austere and developed environments, and teaching in the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at the United States Military Academy, West Point NY. His last Army assignment was as Commander of the New England District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Since joining Normandeau in 2009, Thalken has assumed increasing operations and business development responsibility for Normandeau’s various offices and business lines.

In addition to these appointments, the Board also named Rick Simmons, Paul Geoghegan, Christine Denny and Crissy Sutter as Vice Presidents. Simmons and Geoghegan are Bedford-based senior managers who lead the company’s hydropower and power plant business. Denny manages the company’s Gainesville, FL office; and Sutter is an expert in the biology and behavior of bats, many of which are rare and endangered.
