Craig Wood, PWS Joins ESS as Principal Scientist

ESS is please to welcome Craig Wood, PWS as a Principal Scientist in our Ecological Services & Environmental Permitting Practice. With more than 26 years of experience in conducting and managing ecological investigations, NEPA compliance documentation, and other state and local environmental permitting throughout New England, Craig is a recognized expert in the area of freshwater and coastal wetlands.
“Craig brings extensive industry knowledge and an impressive ecological and coastal wetland background to ESS,” said Carl Nielsen, Vice President of Ecological Services & Environmental Permitting. “His demonstrated ability to build consensus among various stakeholders, identify environmentally sensitive planning and engineering solutions, and successfully help clients navigate evolving regulatory processes will build upon our strong track record of project success.”
Previously, Craig worked for an international engineering/construction management firm as a Managing Ecologist. While there, he successfully permitted complex public and private sector projects involving ecosystem restoration, coastal zone facilities, transportation improvements, and site development. Craig’s expertise and experience includes coastal and inland wetland ecology, vernal pool ecology, wetland delineation, functional assessment, and habitat restoration design (tidal restrictions, invasive species management, fish passage, and stream restoration). He served six years on the State of New Hampshire Joint Board of Licensure and Certification which administers the NH Certified Wetland Scientist program.
Craig holds an MS in Natural Resource Science from the University of Rhode Island and a BS in Natural Resource Conservation from the University of Connecticut. He is a member of the Society of Wetland Scientists, Society for Ecological Restoration, New Hampshire Association of Natural Resource Scientists, and Association of Massachusetts Wetland Scientists. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Narrow River Preservation Association.
