Jamy Buchanan Madeja of Buchanan & Associates Named Among Massachusetts Super Lawyers

Jamy Buchanan Madeja has been named as one of the 2009 Massachusetts Super Lawyers in environmental law.  This is a repeat appearance on the Super Lawyer list for Ms Madeja, who was named to the list in 2006.

Published by Law & Politics, Super Lawyers is an annual jurisdictional listing of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 areas of practice. Only five percent of the lawyers from any state or region are included each year. The Super Lawyers selection process is a rigorous multiphase selection process, considering a wide range of objective indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement.
Jamy Buchanan Madeja is an environmental lawyer and government relations counsel at Buchanan & Associates, a Boston law office she established 17 years ago, after serving as General Counsel for Environmental Affairs for Governor Weld.  Ms. Madeja specializes in Massachusetts waterfront law and represents many marinas and boatyards statewide, as well as representing the Massachusetts Marine Trades Association.  Her clients? issues range from permitting and enforcement proceedings before the Department of Environmental Protection to disputes with abutters.  She testifies at the Massachusetts legislature frequently and teaches lawyers and non-lawyers on practical and academic aspects of law and government relations, and serves on a number of not-for-profit boards with interests in land use and waterfront matters.

Joe Geary of Woodard & Curran Wins Massachusetts Water Works Pride Award

Lawrence, Massachusetts. (November 13, 2009) – Woodard & Curran’s Joe Geary has received the Massachusetts Water Works Association’s 2009 Water Works Pride Award. The award is given each year to an individual “gives that extra effort to make a difference in the water works profession.”

Geary is the Plant Manager for the City of Lawrence, MA’s Water Treatment Facility, which Woodard & Curran contract operates for the City, where he oversees all aspects of facility operations. Under Geary’s leadership, the facility has experience no compliance violations or unexpected down time. Stormwaterworks.com Installs Hydrodynamic Separator in Stamford

Long Island Sound: Water clean enough to drink?

On Friday, November 6, Stormwaterworks.com, will be installing its first Hydrodynamic separator in the state at Stamford’s Harbor Point Development Project – Terre Kleen is a unit that relies in part on 80 year old technology adapted from the potable water system arena.

“The reason that this installation is so exciting” says Stormwaterworks owner Nanda Zimmerman, “is that the Terre Kleen unit is a water quality treatment vault which will capture sediment, trash/debris and oil preventing this pollution from reaching The Sound. Containing this pollution will have a positive impact on the water quality in our harbor and Long Island Sound.”

Additionally, the Terre Kleen is highly efficient at capturing and containing pollutants in a smaller footprint. This efficiency allows building contractors to install these systems in projects where space is at a premium. This ultimately makes stormwater treatment more accessible, further cleaning up our local waters. Cleaning The Sound and keeping it that way is so important to the quality and way of life in Connecticut, as well as the rest of the Eastern Seaboard.

Conti Federal Services, Inc. Awarded Contract from the Department of the Air Force

Conti Federal Services, Inc., of South Plainfield, NJ, was awarded on September 25, 2009, an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity – Multiple Award Task Order Contract from the Department of the Air Force under the Worldwide Environmental Restoration and Construction 2009 (WERC09) contract, Full and Open Competition. The WERC09 acquisition will provide environmental restoration and environmental construction activities at sites located on DoD (primarily Air Force) installations worldwide, as well as any other sites for which the AFCEE customers have responsibility. Requirements will be primarily environmental restoration/remediation efforts that include completion of a conceptual design, construction, implementation, demolition, repair, and operation and maintenance of installed systems prior to delivery to the Government.  Performance-Based Remediation (PBR) requirements are addressed in this contract. Traditional engineering and construction needs are a secondary requirement and include design, construction, demolition, repair, and operation and maintenance prior to delivery to the Government. The contract maximum value is $3,000,000,000 for all WERC09 awardees.  The HQ AFCEE/ACV, Brooks City Base, TX, is the contracting activity (Solicitation Number FA8903-08-R-8348).
